The first recorded camping at Jalama Beach occurred in 1909. A group of fishermen set up camp near the beach and stayed for two weeks. In 1916, a group of Girl Scouts camping at Jalama Beach were badly beaten by local residents. This event helped to spur the development of campsites throughout the area, which eventually led to the popularity of Jalama Beach today.

JALAMA BEACH CAMPGROUND:

If you’re looking for a breathtaking place to camp, Jalama Beach is the perfect spot. This campground is located on the Pacific Coast Highway, about halfway between Santa Barbara and Lompoc. The campground has an exact number of 109 sites for visitors and each site is capable of fitting in 8 people so you can already understand how big the whole campground is. Well, you can bring your pet dog, cat, and any other kind of pet animal you want but you need to make sure that they are on a leash all the time and it will cost you $3 per night for each pet animal you bring inside the campground.

The Jalama Campground Beach is divided into two campsites and they are as follows;

  • Abalone Point

This campsite is known as the water zone as it is located very close to the water so you can enjoy the beach more often. This campsite can serve around 20 people and eight vehicles, so it’s pretty big. The campsite has a total of 5 picnic tables, a place for BBQing and a fire pit for sitting around it and telling ghost stories.  

  • Starfish Cove

This campsite is known as the land zone as it is slightly far from the beach but you can still experience the landmarks. This campsite can accommodate around 40 people and 8 vehicles, making it bigger than the Abalone Point. Aside from accommodation, this campsite is adjusted with 2 tables for preparing food, a sink, and seven picnic tables.

If you want to make reservations, then it isn’t possible to just call the night before and book a site. You need to call and make a booking at least 6 months prior to your arrival and this is because they have so many visitors that it’s hard to get a booking anytime soon. If you don’t own a tent or an RV then you don’t need to worry as they have 8 tents and 8 RVs available for rent but you must put up your name on the waiting list before 8am to acquire one.

The campground offers both RV and tent camping and cabins for those who want a little more luxury. There are also several restaurants and shops in the area, so you’ll never run out of things to do. Jalama Beach is a must-see destination for anyone visiting California.

Jalama Beach direction:

Jalama Beach is a beautiful camp place, but finding your way around can be difficult.

Here are some tips to help you get started.

  • Jalama Beach is located in Lompoc, California. It’s about an hour’s drive from Santa Barbara and just 45 mins drive from Lompoc
  • There are several ways to get to Jalama Beach. The most direct route is Highway 1, but there are also back roads that can be used if you’re looking for a scenic drive.
  • Take the 4.5 miles Freeway towards Lompoc will direct you to Jamala Road.
  • After that, just follow 14.5 miles of beautiful road to the coast
  • Finally, The camping area is on the right-hand side of the road.
  • Once you reach Jalama Beach, there are signs that will direct you to the camping areas.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO CAMPING AT

Camping at Jalama Beach is a great way to enjoy the beautiful California coastline. Before you go, be sure to pack the following items:

  1. Beach opening time: The beach is open from 8 am to sunset, and camping is allowed only in the designated areas.
  2. Food and drinks – There is available of food and drinks supply in campground so no worries about your eating and drinking.
  3. Sunscreen and hats – The sun can be very strong in Santa Barbara County, so it’s important to protect yourself from sunburn.
  4. Be aware of your surroundings. Jalama Beach is known for its strong winds and dangerous surf conditions. Ensure you know how to identify hazardous areas and stay clear while camping or swimming.
  5. Bug spray – There are a lot of mosquitoes at Jalama Beach, so bring bug spray to keep them away.
  6. Swimsuits and towels – Jalama Beach is a great place to swim, so be sure to pack your swimsuit and towel.

If you are new to surfing I will not suggest you surf here because of risk. And when the sun goes down, the stars come out in full force. If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful getaway that still offers plenty of excitement and adventure, Jalama Beach is hard to beat.
